Overall outlook for Onyeka Okongwu

The sky is the limit for Onyeka Okongwu. Most of his weaknesses are things within his control that hard work and coaching will help him through those. As he continues to work and get better he will only get better. Figuring out where he lands in the draft tonight is complicated.

James Wiseman is the consensus top big man in this draft but that may be somewhat misguided. If the league follows the trend of the Adebayo-type then the USC big man fits even better and should be a top priority. The likely ceiling for his range comes at number 3 with the Charlotte Hornets. They have been pining for a center to build around and if they do not trade up for Wiseman they may luck out with the better option.

Should the Hornets decide to go with a playmaker instead any number of teams that could trade up with the Atlanta Hawks could be in play. There has been no shortage of reports that the Washington Wizards see him as a perfect fit for their team and it is easy to see why. If they can make it worth the while for any team looking to trade back they could get their big man of the future. Okongwu would be a special player and the type of piece that would win Bradley Beal over for the long haul.

No matter what happens any team should be happy to bring in Onyeka Okongwu. While there are no traditional stars in this draft Okongwu is a cultural force on the defensive end of the ball and as his offensive game evolves he could be an All-Star in the making.
