The Detroit Pistons select Killian Hayes No. 7 in the NBA draft

The Detroit Pistons ended up selecting one of their prime targets with the No. 7 pick in the NBA draft. Killian Hayes will be headed to the Motor City.
The Detroit Pistons had a short list of players they were ready to select seventh overall in the NBA draft, and things worked out just the way they wanted. Per report from Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Pistons selected Killian Hayes and the international star will be headed to the Motor City.
In spite of the fact that the Pistons were very high on Patrick Williams (who went fourth overall to the Chicago Bulls), they’re going to be delighted with Hayes.
He has been touted as one of the best point guards in the draft and on some big boards has been noted as one of the top couple of players overall in this draft class. In fact, Kevin O’Connor had him No. 1 on his final pre-draft big board. He has a history with last year’s Piston draft pick, Sekou Doumbouya, as they have played together in the past in France.
The Pistons were in need of a talented guard with a high ceiling in this draft, and they believe that Killian Hayes is the man for the job. While he has some significant shortcomings, like the fact that he is heavily left-hand dominant and his shooting is subpar, some of that might come from a remarkably small sample and the fact that nobody in the German league was really good enough to force him to use his right hand.
With NBA coaching, this hard-working young man has the potential to break out as a difference-maker. While his athleticism leaves something to be desired, his creativity as a playmaker is outstanding. Alongside Luke Kennard, Blake Griffin, Derrick Rose and the rest of the Pistons’ roster, he may flourish in his rookie season in Detroit.
