Best NBA Draft Lottery pick: Detroit Pistons, Grant Hill
Before injuries ravaged his career, Grant Hill was among the top all-around players in the NBA during his time with the Detroit Pistons. The versatile and creative play from Hill provided the Detroit Pistons with a cornerstone player that they had been scouring for since the end of the Bad Boys Pistons era.
Hill was essentially the player whom the Pistons could constantly rely on to fill the stat sheet. The forward averaged 21.6 points per game over his six seasons with the Pistons, which included multiple 30-point games. He also totaled for a stout 149 double-doubles and 29 triple-doubles — both of which led the Pistons over his time with the team. And while the Pistons were not regular championship contenders over this time period, Hill still managed to finish in the top 10 for the NBA MVP award five times during his Pistons run.
Unfortunately, Hill’s time with the Pistons were all fans would see of him in his prime. He suffered an ankle injury during his final season in Detroit. This injury carried over into his tenure with the Orlando Magic as he continually missed a significant amount of time there and wound up making a mere one All-Star appearance after leaving the Pistons. The all-around play on both ends of the floor was a thing of the past for Hill after deciding to leave Detroit.
Still, Hill’s grand play while with the Pistons was enough to help him clinch a nomination into the Basketball Hall of Fame.
