Los Angeles Lakers: 5 offseason roster moves they must make
In what will go down as one of the most eventful NBA seasons ever, the Los Angeles Lakers rose up and won it all. Here are five roster moves they need to make.
After getting Anthony Davis from the New Orleans Pelicans, LeBron James has delivered another championship to one of the most storied franchises in the NBA. The Los Angeles Lakers deserved to win it this year given the heartbreak they suffered.
I refer, of course, to the tragic loss of Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gigi. If ever a franchise needed something positive to help deal with such a huge blow, it was this year. His loss rocked the whole basketball world but was felt most keenly where he played all of his professional basketball.
James has now been a major part of winning three championships on three different teams. This is going to be a big part of his legacy when he retires. Davis has now been able to show how good he is on a relevant team.
Can the Los Angeles Lakers make it two in a row?
This was the first time in five years that the Golden State Warriors were not the best team in the NBA. They lost Klay Thompson for the season and Kevin Durant signed with the Brooklyn Nets. Draymond Green and Stephen Curry were both out for time this season with injuries.
Does this lessen the value of the 2020 NBA championship? No, it does not. Like the Toronto Raptors championship in 2019, you can only play who the opposition puts on the court. The Lakers were the best team this year when it mattered.
Now the question is, should the Lakers run it back and see how they go against the healthy Warriors? Absolutely they should. We are yet to see how the Warriors will go against the rest of the NBA, as it changed so much the last offseason. The Lakers need to put their best foot forward and challenge others to beat them.
The Lakers are already starting to make moves prior to the offseason trade moratorium concluding. They have in principle agreed to trade for Dennis Schroder of the OKC Thunder. With that in mind, let’s look at the five roster moves the Los Angeles Lakers need to make
