There have been a number of high-profile rumors surrounding the Brooklyn Nets lately, but how likely are they actually and are they a good idea?
The Brooklyn Nets are going to be a brand-new team come December 22nd. They ended the 2019-20 season in the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference, just barely making the cut for the NBA bubble in Orlando. Although they were swept by the Toronto Raptors in the first round of the playoffs, the young core of the Nets displayed passion and potential in Orlando without their star players, with Caris LeVert even making the All-NBA Bubble Second Team.
Kyrie Irving only played 20 games this past season, but his numbers looked pretty good. Before his season-ending shoulder injury, Kyrie averaged 27.4 points, 6.4 assists, and 5.2 total rebounds per game. He also shot a 47.8 field goal percentage, 39.4 percent from deep, and 92.2 percent from the free throw line. Kyrie passed up the opportunity to play in the bubble, citing concerns over whether or not the NBA restart would detract from the Black Lives Matter movement.
The return of Kevin Durant will be another focus of the Nets. Although Durant was traded to Brooklyn last summer, he did not play a game in the following season in order to focus on his injury recovery.
With the addition of Steve Nash as the new head coach of the Nets, working alongside lead assistant Jacque Vaughn, there is already a lot to look forward to in the coming season, but some of the recent trade rumors have made Nets fans even more excited.
Pursue: Push for defense and experience
Although it’s hard to judge what the Nets are missing before seeing how Durant and Irving mesh together and with the rest of the team, the Nets could use a veteran player with good defensive abilities.
