3. Guarantee Monte Morris

In just his third year with the Nuggets, Monte Morris has developed into a fantastic reserve. While Murray is quite obviously the leader in the backcourt, Morris has carved out quite a nice niche for the Nuggets.

He has played every game for the last two seasons and has been productive when he has hit the court. Last season he averaged 9.0 points, 3.5 assists, 1.9 rebounds, and 0.8 steals in 22.4 minutes per game.

These numbers were a little down on the previous season but are still really good for a backup point guard. Opposition teams have little respite when Murray sits thanks to the play of Morris.

The 6’2″ point guard out of Iowa State is due just $1.6 million next season should the Nuggets guarantee him. With the salary cap pressure they are going to be under, this would almost have to be an automatic move for the Nuggets front office.

They will not be able to reward Morris for his service the season after as they still have salary cap pressure. However, should the Nuggets want to, they can sign him to a better deal with decent back-end money if both parties agree. Morris is certainly worth keeping around long term.
