The New York Knicks have a new coach and a new front office, and this offseason is an opportunity to pick a new direction for the organization.

The New York Knicks have been able to hit the reset button as fully as most organizations ever get to. They have a new head coach and a new front office, and they have massive amounts of cap space and the ability to create more. The Knicks also have the eighth pick in the NBA draft, so while the free agent class and the draft class alike are weaker than you’d like, they do have plenty of assets at their disposal with sharp new minds to direct the ship.

Any team with the name draw and the resources suddenly at their disposal that the Knicks possess will find themselves firmly in the middle of all sorts of rumors about possible trades, and this organization is no exception. We’ll take a look at three major rumors involving the Knicks and evaluate whether they should pursue or pass on each.

Pass: Push for win-now moves

New Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau isn’t known for being patient, and it’s not a real surprise that he is pushing to win now rather than rebuild organically with a plan. Unfortunately, barring some sort of surprise developments, this year’s free agent class is simply not of the ilk that can provide win-now opportunities.

The fear in New York should be that Thibodeau will push Leon Rose and the new front office into hasty and ill-conceived moves that could potentially boost the Knicks into fringe playoff contention but hamper their long-term outlook.

It’s what bad teams do, and it’s what the New York Knicks have always done. Now is the time to change that trend, and it’s time for Tom Thibodeau to trust the… procedure.
