Pursue: Trade LaMarcus Aldridge to the Golden State Warriors

As O’Connor’s mock draft suggests, another rumor picking up steam is that the Golden State Warriors are interested in trading the second overall pick to the Spurs, possibly for LaMarcus Aldridge.

The Warriors would get a versatile big in Aldridge, and his contract expires in 2021 which gives them additional flexibility down the road. Considering their reasonable title window doesn’t extend much beyond the next year or two anyway, he could be an outstanding fit alongside Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.

As for the Spurs side of things, they may have to take on Andrew Wiggins along with that second overall pick. Can Gregg Popovich rehabilitate his disappointing career arc? If anybody can do it, Pop might just be the one.

They could flip the No. 2 pick elsewhere or they could take their pick of whoever is left of LaMelo Ball, Anthony Edwards and James Wiseman, or they could reach for somebody outside of that top three if there’s somebody they really like who won’t be there when they come up at 11.

This is a deal the San Antonio Spurs should make if the opportunity presents itself, even if Andrew Wiggins is the cost of doing business.
