We’re around the corner from the NBA draft and free agency, and rumors abound. Let’s take a look at three rumors the Detroit Pistons should pass or pursue.
The Detroit Pistons are about to enter a pivotal time in their franchise’s history. After a decade of ineptitude, they have a top-10 draft pick and plenty of cap space to use. Now more than ever, it’s time they start getting some moves right.
The Pistons have been in the mix in a handful of rumors, primarily involving free agency and the draft, so we’ll take a look at three of them and evaluate whether the organization should pass or pursue them.
For starters, let’s take a look at new developments surrounding a certain NBA draft prospect who is flying up the big boards.
Pursue: NBA draft prospect Patrick Williams
The Pistons may be prioritizing guards like Tyrese Haliburton and Killian Hayes in the draft, but according to Bleacher Report’s Jonathan Wasserman, Florida State’s Patrick Williams has entered the picture for the organization.
Williams is ascending the draft board and the Pistons are rumored to be interested in drafting him seventh if Haliburton and Hayes are gone. He turned 19 this summer, and he already has solid NBA size at 6’8″ and 225 lbs, with a 6’11” wingspan.
The Pistons need guards, but they also need wings and Williams could fill that role. He’s not a great defender and he had almost twice as many turnovers as assists last season for Florida State, so his playmaking and decision-making could clearly use some work, but this is a prospect that plenty of teams are high on.
If the Pistons get a shot at drafting Patrick Williams, they should pursue it.
