Gary Clark – Sell

Unfortunately for Gary Clark, he landed on the Magic at the wrong time. During the most grueling stages of their rebuild, a period of time that lasted years, Clark would have been the kind of intriguing prospect to keep around the roster.

He will likely never be anything more than a role player, and a limited one at that, yet there were flashes of play with the Magic last season that were encouraging. At the very least he bought into what coach Clifford was trying to do, even starting five regular season games as injuries hurt their rotation.

It is also just kind of nice to see somebody wear the number 12 once donned by Dwight Howard again, it feels like Clark is trying to send a message by having it on his uniform. Back when the vitriol for Howard was at its most poisonous, this too would have endeared him to fans. Another reason it just feels like he has come along at the wrong moment.

The Magic’s frontcourt as things stand is crowded, and that’s without factoring in Jonathan Isaac, who will return one day to hopefully lead this franchise again. Vucevic and Gordon get big minutes, while they still have to figure out how Mohamed Bamba factors into all of this. Khem Birch is a fan favorite who embodies the Magic’s identity like nobody else, and Al-Farouq Aminu will be back next season too.

Which leaves Clark as the odd man out. A decent stretch big who actually shot 35.1 percent from deep on nearly three attempts a night across his time with both the Magic and Houston Rockets last season. That kind of offensive production from a frontcourt player would be great for the Orlando Magic to have. But there are also other options out there, and he’s not going to get much run anyway.
