Philadelphia 76ers

True to form, the Philadelphia 76ers’ offseason thus far has been anything but uneventful. In addition to Doc Rivers taking over the head coaching duties from Brett Brown,  Elton Brand has been superseded in the front office by long-time Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey.

With these positions now entrenched, attention now turns to the flawed product that is the Sixers’ roster. While their intentions were great, the summer of 2019 was a disaster for the Sixers. In addition to letting Jimmy Butler escape to the Miami Heat via trade, with only Josh Richardson to show for it, Brand further exacerbated things by extending Tobias Harris to a five-year, $180 contract, while also adding veteran Al Horford to a four-year deal of which $97 million is guaranteed.

But with Morey now taking the reigns of the front office, it’s highly unlikely the Sixers will enter the 2020-21 season with the same roster that was swept in the first round of the 2020 playoffs.

Given the presence and impact of All-Star duo Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons, the pair of Harris and Horford would be the most likely names brought up moving forward for any potential trade scenarios. However, given the length and amount owed on their current deals, finding a suitable trading partner for Morey and Co. will certainly be easier said than done.

For the time, Sixers fans can only watch as their new head of basketball prepares to weave his magic.
