LA Clippers: 3 point guards to target this offseason – Derrick Rose (Trade)
Like many teams, the LA Clippers entertained the idea of trading for Derrick Rose this past season, although nothing ever came of it. Now, with the team in need of a point guard, they could look to revamp that interest.
Rose is coming off one of his best statistical seasons since his MVP campaign in 2010-11, averaging 18.1 points on .490/.306/.871 shooting splits, 5.6 assists, and 2.4 rebounds per game. Because of his strong efforts, Rose will be a hot commodity on the trade market this offseason, and the LA Clippers should make an offer to the Detroit Pistons.
The 32-year-old checks off the boxes for the Clippers, giving them a leader, ballhandler, playmaker, and scoring at the point guard position. On top of that, he is affordable for a team with finite resources, slated to make just $7 million next season.
Detroit has not outright said that they would look to move on from Rose this offseason, but with the league-wide interest surrounding him, they could try to move him while his value is sky-high. If so, the Clippers are a sensible fit, given their urgency to win now and desire to upgrade at point guard before next season rolls around.
If the LA Clippers do not pounce on the opportunity to land Rose in NBA free agency, he could very well end up with the rivaling Lakers, who also have a well-documented interest in the former league MVP.
