2. Trade Chris Paul

Chris Paul was the other huge reason the Thunder were not at the bottom of the standings last season. His play, leadership and mentorship of the young team gave former Thunder head coach Billy Donovan a second coach on the floor.

However, when it all comes down to it, Paul has two years left on his deal. Next year is worth $41 million and the year after is a player option worth $44 million. Paul is currently 35 years old and is at the wrong end of his career to go through a rebuild.

His trade value will not be higher during this current contract than it is right now. He was the most clutch player in the NBA last season. If he was given the right team, he would be competing for a championship next year.

There are only a few teams in the association who have the resources and potential interest in Paul. The Milwaukee Bucks need a player to help them get over the hump with Giannis Antetokounmpo. Likewise, the Los Angeles Lakers might be interested in Paul. The New York Knicks have also expressed an interest in taking on contracts like Paul’s.

The other reason for the Thunder to be shopping Paul is that their future star in the making is Gilgeous-Alexander, who also plays the point. It is time for the former Clipper to take the helm and learn in the hot heat.
