Jeff Teague – Sell
There’s actually a decent chance Jeff Teague finds himself back with the Atlanta Hawks next season. He’s a solid backup point guard with plenty of experience in Atlanta.
Teague did not acquit himself well during his second stint with the Hawks, though. After being acquired from the Minnesota Timberwolves midway through the season, Teague played 25 games for the team, starting four of them. He averaged just 7.7 points per game, down more than five points from earlier in the season with Minnesota.
He also averaged just 4.0 assists per game. His scoring and passing numbers were some of the worst since Teague’s first couple of years in the league.
His presence on the roster is a welcome veteran sight for a very young team. But his presence on the roster behind Trae Young also takes away minutes from Brandon Goodwin, who the Hawks want to develop into a long-term solution at backup point guard.
In comments to HoopsHype this week, Teague suggested that winning trumped all else through his next ride through free agency. If that’s the case, his departure from Atlanta seems secured, as the Hawks aren’t contending for a title next season, even if they can claw their way back to the playoffs.
