5. Draft well

The Mavericks have two picks in the upcoming NBA draft, the 18th and 31st pick. This second-round pick could be used as part of a trade to strengthen the team, or they could use it for a player who is able to contribute to the win-now franchise.

The 18th pick needs to be used on a wing player. There are several quality wings in this year’s class. Who the Mavericks take will be dependent on who is left after the other 17 selections before them.

If he is available Desmond Bane would be a tremendous fit for the Mavericks. He has a high basketball IQ and is ready to play straight away. He is a tremendous team defender who usually makes the right decisions offensively and defensively. He is also a tremendous shooter.

Josh Green is also a tremendous prospect who can play extremely well off the ball. He is also a canny defender who does the little things which make good teams into great teams. There is a good chance he will not be available but there is always the possibility.

There are also Saddiq Bey, Aaron Nesmith, and Jaden McDaniels who could quite easily play a role with the Mavericks next season. This team is not far away from being near the top of the standings, making these five roster moves will help move them further up next season.
