NBA Draft: Five hidden gems in this year’s draft
By Jono Perilli
NBA draft hidden gem No. 1: Saddiq Bey
Projected: Late First Round – Early Second Round
Calling Saddiq Bey a ‘hidden gem’ is a little ludicrous, considering he’s almost guaranteed to be gone in the first round. But the potential of Bey, and his NBA readiness, is ridiculously underrated.
A sophomore coming out of Villanova, Bey is one of the more versatile 3-and-D players in this year’s draft, with an elite shooting ability partnered with potential All-Defense lockdown abilities. Playing at small forward with a solid 6’8″ frame, Bey is a great floor spacing talent with the ability to specialise in shooting when given the opportunity. Defensively, Bey is great, and has the tools to become even better. While he isn’t an athletic specimen like others in this draft, Bey has proven himself as one of the more NBA-ready prospects available, and could make an impact right away.
Bey does have a level of improvement to be made when it comes to his athleticism. His speed and lateral movement is lacking, and has potential to be exposed at the highest level of play. Bey is a player who can provide results right away, and a team with contending potential who benefit from having a player like him. Bey isn’t going to be a superstar, but he can instantly provide, and with his well-rounded playstyle, he has a high ceiling.
Bey is arguably one of the most underrated prospects in this year’s draft, and even though he’s not a second rounder, he can easily be one of the most impressive players in the selections.
