NBA free agency option No. 2 for Christian Wood: New York Knicks

Our second candidate for Wood’s services are the New York Knicks. They’re projected to have $42.4 million in space which is enough for a max slot, but there are no legitimate candidates on the market for such a contract in this free agent class. That means the Knicks might be able to take multiple bites at the apple and sign Christian Wood and… well, something else.

The Knicks were just about as bad as the Hornets last season, and unlike the Hornets, luck had nothing to do with it. They finished 21-45, and with multiple contracts coming off the books, they have the opportunity for something of a blank slate. With new president of basketball operations Leon Rose calling the shots in the front office, there’s a chance that a new chapter may be commencing in New York at long last.

Wood is presented with another “good stats, bad team” situation in the Knicks, at least in season one. The chances of making a serious push for the playoffs are probably slim, but the idea of building something with potential in one of the biggest markets on Earth might appeal to him as a factor in his free agency decision.
