Does this trade work for the New Orleans Pelicans?

The New Orleans Pelicans immediately get much younger, and depending on how the fit actually works out, they might get significantly better as well. They will lose J.J. Redick and Jrue Holiday as well as giving up their first-round pick in the coming draft, and they will get back Myles Turner and Caris LeVert in return.

When Stan Van Gundy was hired to be the next coach of the New Orleans Pelicans, it signaled that the organization wasn’t looking to take a step back and rebuild, they were going to push forward in an effort to win games and form a contender as quickly as they could. By cashing in this year’s pick and shipping out two veteran guards, they could do just that.

Jrue Holiday has been discussed as one of the most desirable trade chips in the NBA this offseason, and this could be a great return for his service. Myles Turner could get a fresh lease on life alongside Zion Williamson, and Caris LeVert could either start beside Lonzo Ball in the backcourt or come off the bench as a super sixth man on the wing.

This is a deal that gets great value for Holiday, and it boosts this team’s core of young talent. In addition, the Pelicans have a massive haul of draft picks (mostly from the Los Angeles Lakers thanks to the trade for Anthony Davis) over the next several years, so parting with one this year to sweeten this deal makes a lot of sense.
