Does this trade work for the Indiana Pacers?

The Indiana Pacers have two good young big men in Myles Turner and Domantas Sabonis, and rumor has it that Turner would like to play elsewhere. This deal allows them to consolidate support behind Sabonis while generating value from Turner.

They give up Turner and Doug McDermott, but they get back Joe Harris and Spencer Dinwiddie in return. The Pacers were a mediocre 3-point shooting team last season, attempting a league-low 28.0 per game, and Harris’s elite shooting can help push them in the right direction from behind the arc.

Dinwiddie’s addition would add him to a strong guard group including Victor Oladipo, Malcolm Brogdon and (when he returns from injury) Jeremy Lamb, and this deal could suggest that more trades are coming in the near future for this core.

It’s also worth noting that this trade will hard-cap the Pacers as the recipient of the Joe Harris sign-and-trade, but they aren’t likely to go anywhere close to the luxury tax apron so that shouldn’t end up being much a factor in the end.

At this point in the early goings of the pre-offseason, this looks like a deal that could work for the Indiana Pacers.
