Indiana Pacers: 5 offseason roster moves they must make
4. Move on from JaKarr Sampson
The Pacers signed JaKarr Sampson to a one year, minimum salary deal last summer. He only played four games in the 2018-19 season for the Chicago Bulls where he averaged 20.0 points per game. This season it is safe to say that Sampson regressed to the mean.
His numbers were actually under his career stats, for the most part. He averaged 4.6 points, 2.6 rebounds, 0.6 assists and 0.5 steals in 13.9 minutes per game. It was his steals where he averaged above his career number of 0.4 per game.
Sampson was a mixed bag with his shooting on the season. He shot the ball at 59.1 percent from the floor, which is well above his career number of 46.8 percent. However, he was able to hit on only 15.4 percent of his 3-point attempts.
One of the biggest problems for Sampson is that there is no room for him on the roster. The Pacers already have T.J. Warren who was so impressive in the bubble, Doug McDermott and probably Holiday.
This was the case this season where Sampson only played 34 games. While he did start 12 of them, most of these were at the start of the season. Sampson missed almost a month of the season with a sore back and never really earned his place back in the rotation.
