Detroit Pistons: 3 options with the No. 7 pick in the NBA draft
By Duncan Smith
The Detroit Pistons have a decent pick in a weak NBA draft class. After multiple misses in the draft, it’s time for the organization to get this pick right.
The NBA draft has been unkind to the Detroit Pistons in recent years. With multiple lottery strikeouts in the forms of Stanley Johnson and Henry Ellenson, there has been a deep price to pay for the organization as they look to rebuild. After all those failures, they need a win in this draft with the seventh overall pick.
The Pistons have a variety of options with this pick. They could go for a player who provides the highest floor but the likely lowest ceiling or they could go for a player whose floor is quite low but could develop into something special. They could also trade up or down in the draft, but this is new general manager Troy Weaver’s first draft with the Pistons, so they would probably need a heck of a reason to trade the pick.
We’re going to examine the primary options at their disposal in the draft, and we’ll discount the possibility of this pick getting traded. The Detroit Pistons are in the midst of a youth movement, and bolstering that movement with more talented lottery-caliber players to join last year’s 15th overall pick, Sekou Doumbouya, is the goal.
Without further ado, let’s take a look at three options for the Detroit Pistons with the No. 7 pick in the 2020 NBA draft.
