NBA free agency destination No. 1: Dallas Mavericks

Cousins landing in Dallas and playing for the Mavericks would be a match made in heaven if Cousins wasn’t dealing with being injury-prone.

For the Dallas Mavericks, Cousins would check off a few boxes when it comes to their offseason needs. After the LA Clippers did their best to bully Luka Doncic in their first-round playoff series, it became apparent that Dallas needs an enforcer. They need someone with a mean streak, someone who is willing to stick up for their teammates and provide an aggressive presence to take some heat off of their superstar guard.

The Mavericks will also likely be in need of a body in the frontcourt. After dealing with injuries during the playoffs, Kristaps Porzingis recently underwent knee surgery and the timetable for his return is questionable. Cousins could potentially fill a void in the rotation until Porzingis is healthy.

As for Cousins, he would join yet another world-class organization. Pending his ability to stay on the floor, he would receive immediate playing time for a team that is all but a playoff lock.

In all likelihood, Dallas will be hesitant to add a player with such a broad history of injuries. The future of one of their young stars could be in jeopardy, and relying on the health of Cousins wouldn’t be a wise move for a team looking to contend. But if they are to sign someone like Montrezl Harrel to be a starter, perhaps the Mavericks can afford to take a flyer on Cousins.
