Does this trade work for the Indiana Pacers?

The Indiana Pacers have two players allegedly looking to get out of town in Victor Oladipo and Myles Turner, and this salvages their situation better than most. They ship out Oladipo and Turner, as well as Doug McDermott, and they gain back the Warriors’ No. 2 pick, Andrew Wiggins and Jerami Grant via sign-and-trade.

Grant will be signed to what will likely be his market value in the $14 million AAV range, and it gives the Pacers a solid wing who can rebound, defend and shoot the 3. Acquiring him via sign-and-trade will hard cap the Pacers, but that doesn’t matter. They won’t be going near the luxury tax apron anyway.

The second overall pick gives them the ability to either flip it again for other assets or draft LaMelo Ball, James Wiseman, Anthony Edwards or another candidate in that slot.

As for Wiggins, maybe another change of scenery can do the trick for him. His effort and care-factors have always been poor, but if anything can change that it’s getting traded twice in less than a full season. That is, of course, asking a lot of him.

It feels like the Pacers take the worst of it here, but this situation manages to get them value for Oladipo and Turner before they get so close to the deadline that teams are able to really hold them hostage from a leverage perspective.
