3. Jaren Jackson Jr.

Maybe Jaren Jackson Jr., a 21-year-old who just completed his sophomore season, isn’t yet ready to primarily take on the Anthony Davis challenge. But if his first two years are any indication, he will be, and sooner than we maybe think.

Only so many big men can match the agility of Davis. Jackson is one of them, able to show on a screen while rushing back to avoid giving a guy like Davis a mismatch in the post. He’s bouncy with a 7’4” reach that helps him spring back up and block AD after rotating over to slow a drive by LeBron.

Like many developing players, Jackson needs to avoid the silly mistakes that have him average north of five career fouls per-36 minutes. He needs to bulk up his frame if he is to suit up at center for more than 55 percent of his minutes as he did this season.

Those are two fixes likely to come with time and experience. The other stuff is either there or it’s not, unteachable. Jackson has that defensive versatility and it’s sure to serve the Memphis Grizzlies well in their pursuit of a spot in the Western Conference’s upper echelon.
