What a Derrick Rose trade with the Philadelphia 76ers would look like

As much as the Lakers and Clippers need a ball-handler who can create his own offense, the Philadelphia 76ers need that kind of player even more. Bereft of ball-handling, the Sixers’ best such player doesn’t shoot the ball outside of five feet from the basket and struggles to score in the half-court.

Rose could fill that self-creation role for them and more. Rather critically, the Sixers probably couldn’t afford to give him the rest time that the Los Angeles teams could, and while that won’t matter to Rose himself, it may make extending his season into the playoffs a tricky proposition.

The Sixers can amass a better trade package for Rose’s services than either the Lakers or the Clippers. In spite of the Brian Colangelo and Elton Brand regimes’ best efforts, they still have draft capital and could offer first-round picks in this draft (via the OKC Thunder) as well as holding all of their own first-round picks going forward from 2021.

Thanks to Rose’s team-friendly $7.6 million salary, the Sixers could also make use of some of their young and cheap assets like Zhaire Smith or Furkan Korkmaz in addition to that draft capital.

Unlike the Clippers and Lakers, the Sixers have a number of ways they could make a favorable deal with the Detroit Pistons.
