5. Re-sign Josh Jackson

After being acquired prior to the season starting with De’Anthony Melton, Josh Jackson spent the first three months playing for the Memphis Hustle in the G League. He made the Grizzlies affiliate the best team in that league until he was recalled to the varsity squad.

During his time in the G League Jackson played 26 games, averaging 20.4 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.6 steals, and 1.5 blocks in 31.2 minutes per game. His slash line showed how efficiently he shot the ball at 44.7/38.2/62.7.

After he was recalled, Jackson played 22 games and became a solid contributor in Memphis. He averaged 9.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 1.6 steals, 0.8 steals and 0.4 blocks in just 17.3 minutes per game. His shooting was still efficient with a slash line of 44.0/31.9/70.0

Jackson, the fourth pick in the 2017 Draft, has not produced at the level he would have liked, first with the Phoenix Suns and now with the Grizzlies. As a result, his asking price will be less than the $7 million he was paid in the 2019-20 season.

This is going to be crucial for the Grizzlies moving forward. They are without a first-round draft pick this season so they have lost one of their avenues of improvement. They need to rely on natural development from their young core, trade, and free-agent signings to move up the standings.

The Grizzlies are a team on the rise. They need to capitalize on the growth of Ja Morant, Jaren Jackson Jr. and Dillon Brooks by putting the right players around them. These roster moves will help that process.
