3. Move on from Anthony Tolliver

After being waived by the Sacramento Kings in February, Anthony Tolliver signed a ten-day contract with the Grizzlies in March. Then the league was suspended due to COVID-19 and Tolliver had to wait until June to sign the rest of his contract.

This means that the Grizzlies had a total of 13 games to evaluate what the 12-year veteran could bring to the team. Part of the reason that he was signed was to help replace the production of JJJ who suffered sprained left knee in February.

Jackson was able to return for three of the seeding games but then tore his meniscus. To be fair to Tolliver, no one expected him to replicate 17.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.6 blocks, and 1.4 assists per game. The Grizzlies went 5-8 in the 13 games he played, just missing the playoffs.

Tolliver is also 35 years old. While he is definitely the most experienced player on the Grizzlies roster, he does not fit their current timeline. There are plenty of experienced players who fit the Grizzlies system better than Tolliver.

The Grizzlies are going to be on more teams radar’s next year thanks to their surprising success this season. Adding a player who can play multiple positions so that he can stay on in difficult situations may help the franchise navigate the ups and downs of the NBA.
