5. Guarantee Cameron Payne

I have followed Cameron Payne closely since he came into the league with the OKC Thunder. Then, when he was traded to the Chicago Bulls and failed there. After he was waived by the Bulls, the Cleveland Cavaliers signed him to two 10-day contracts before waiving him.

Then the NBA bubble happened and the Phoenix Suns signed him to a contract. Given his history of not working out on teams, it was probable that the Suns would not guarantee his deal for next season. Up until the bubble, Payne has never looked at home in the NBA.

The problem is that Payne has had a career littered with injuries. As such, he was able to score but never seemed to properly fit into a system. Payne led the Phoenix second unit in a way I have not seem him do before and it made them a difficult team to play.

Now, eight games is a small sample size but the former lottery pick averaged 10.9 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.0 steals in just 22.9 minutes. His shooting numbers were super efficient with a slash line of .485/.517/.857 which showed just how much he flourished.

Even should he regress more to his normal, Payne is due just under $2.0 million for next season so it is not too great of a risk. With the players that the Suns need to re-sign, the front office needs to guarantee this deal as soon as they can.

While the Suns are not likely to challenge for a championship next year they should be competitive. These five roster moves should help them in their quest to end the ten year playoff drought.
