LA Clippers: Free agents to buy

Marcus Morris

The LA Clippers made an investment of draft capital to acquire Marcus Morris. They traded their own 2020 first-round pick, the Detroit Pistons 2020 second-round pick, Maurice Harkless and Jerome Robinson to the New York Knicks for Morris. On low volume in the NBA playoffs, Morris was an absolute flamethrower, shooting 50.5 percent from the floor and 47.5 percent from 3-point range.

His volatility got him into trouble in the playoffs and if the Clippers had actually gone on an extended run he may have been at risk of suspension, but toughness does matter in the playoffs and he provided some of that. Considering they have no easy way to replace him if he was to walk, they need to re-sign him in order to push for next season’s Kawhi Leonard-Paul George-era championship run.

Patrick Patterson

Patrick Patterson was a solid depth piece last season for the Clippers. Not much beyond that, mind you, but every roster needs a 10th-through-12th guy and Patterson can continue to fill that role for a bargain. He scored an average of 4.9 points in 13.2 minutes per game last season.

The 31-year-old made $2.3 million in 2019-20 and is probably in line for a similar deal once again from the Clippers.
