4) 2019 rookie NBA basketball cards worth collecting: Bol Bol, Nuggets

Transparently, here, I want to admit that I am an avid Bol Bol collector and I have a pretty well-diversified small collection of Bol Bol rookie cards, none of which I plan on trying to sell any time soon.

With that out of the way, I still think most collectors would agree that Bol Bol is a good card to look at adding to your collection at this stage in the game.

Bol didn’t see any minutes in the early stages of this season but the Nuggets were forced to play him early on in the return-to-play scrimmages since so much of their team was late to arrive due to COVID-19.

It was a blessing in disguise, as Bol went absolutely nuts and flashed a skillset that some draft pundits thought was the absolute best case scenario for him at the NBA level.

In seven games, Bol averaged 5.7 points and 2.7 rebounds (12.4 minutes). He’s shooting 44.4 percent from the 3-point line and 80 percent from the free-throw line.

There’s a chance this was just a 2020 pandemic bubble outlier. I’ll admit that I’m skeptical he pans out to anything more than a deep bench player in the future. But Denver feels like a good fit for him given their ability to see and develop talent in the unconventional big man of Nikola Jokic.

Bol is far from a sure thing, but I myself have been able to pick up some raw cards for prices I deem acceptable. I bought a Rated Rookie base card for less than $3. His base Prizm rated 9 goes for less than $30 on a regular basis.

At the end of the day, Bol is a lovable young player. If you like his personality and are as infatuated with the potential of his game as I am, it’s a card worth keeping an eye out for. For me, when I saw a PSA-9 Hologram Rated Rookie in my local hobby shop I knew I had to have it.

Collecting Bol won’t be for everyone, but you’ll know if this one is speaking to you.
