Milwaukee Bucks 2019-20 NBA season player grades – Head Coach

Mike Budenholzer

In his second season as head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks, Mike Budenholzer was simply outstanding in the regular season, but crumbled once again in the postseason in what has been a frustrating trend across his career. In consecutive seasons now with Budenholzer at the wheel, the Bucks have earned the league’s best record and top overall seed for the NBA Playoffs, but have failed to meet their expectations of at least reaching the NBA Finals each time.

His coaching philosophy has implemented dominance throughout regular seasons, as seen previously with the Atlanta Hawks, and now currently with the Milwaukee Bucks due to Bud’s motion offense being historically effective while his defensive system has gathered remarkable results.

It helps to have the league MVP and DPOY Giannis Antetokounmpo along with other two-way talents that properly mesh within his schemes, but Bud has efficiently trained and utilized the personnel that he’s had in order to create these dominant systems. He deserves credit for the impact and culture he’s built ever since stepping foot in Milwaukee as the head coach.

Nevertheless, Budenholzer’s inability to make adjustments and inexcusable rotation choices continue to haunt the Bucks in the postseason. It’s no secret that the pressure is steadily increasing over Bud’s job security, but it seems that he should have at least one more postseason to prove himself.

As mentioned in one of my previous articles, the Bucks should be making many changes to the roster this offseason. However, Budenholzer has already been assured that he will be retained as the head coach heading into next season.

With his job now under scrutiny after another rough playoff performance despite an excellent regular season, Mike Budenholzer must prove that he can properly adjust his offense when it becomes stale while appropriately breaking down the minutes distribution as well.

Needless to say, next season will be an essential indicator toward the future outlook of head coach Mike Budenholzer and the Milwaukee Bucks.
