Milwaukee Bucks: 2019-20 NBA season player grades
Milwaukee Bucks 2019-20 NBA season player grades – Bench
George Hill
George Hill has been an impactful contributor to the Milwaukee Bucks ever since he was acquired in the middle of the 2018-19 NBA season, and his first full season with the Bucks was exceptional. There’s no questioning the amount of value that he brings to the table with his contagious mentality, high intelligence, and physical abilities.
Hill averaged 9.4 points per game on 51.6 percent field goals and led the league with a 3-point percentage of 46.0 percent this season. He only played 21.5 minutes per game, but Milwaukee’s sixth man played a significant role in their overall success.
At 34 years old, Hill’s abilities to impact a game, especially defensively, meshed perfectly with the Bucks’ system. Offensively, he let it fly from beyond the arc at an amazingly efficient rate while his defensive presence consistently caused issues for opponents.
In addition, an admiring aspect from Hill this season was his leadership and locker room presence, as shown when the Bucks boycotted for social justice in postponing Game 5 of their first-round playoff matchup against the Orlando Magic.
George Hill was an influential veteran player for the Milwaukee Bucks this season and his contributions certainly paid dividends.
Player Grade: A-
Donte DiVincenzo
It sure was an interesting 2019-20 NBA season for Donte DiVincenzo. In his sophomore year in the league, Donte initially looked like he was having a breakout season. Throughout the regular season, he averaged 9.2 points and 1.3 steals per game on 45.5 percent shooting from the floor and 33.6 percent from beyond the arc while also earning 24 appearances in the starting lineup.
However, DiVincenzo’s impact took a dip toward the end of the season and ultimately struggled for the most part in the bubble after the hiatus. It seemed as if he lost confidence shooting the ball, plus his slow decision-making on both ends of the floor resulted in a pattern of careless turnovers and frustrating mistakes. Therefore, Donte saw his minutes drop by a whopping 6.5 per game in the playoffs.
It’s a shame since the Bucks had high expectations for DiVincenzo this season, and some thought he would become what Fred VanVleet was to the Toronto Raptors’ championship pursuit last postseason. We’ve seen Donte’s potential, but he just needs to effectively become more efficient and consistent as the 23-year-old continues to improve.
Player Grade: B-
Pat Connaughton
Pat Connaughton‘s season was highlighted by his insane athleticism during the 2020 NBA Slam Dunk Contest during the All-Star weekend, but his overall performances weren’t as exciting for the Milwaukee Bucks.
Although Connaughton was a consistent option off the bench again this season averaging 18.6 minutes per game, he only contributed 5.4 points and 4.2 rebounds on 45.5 percent field goals and 33.1 percent from downtown. To be fair, he did have some electrifying moments this season, but hopefully, they can become more consistent if the Bucks decide to re-sign him in free agency in the offseason.
Player Grade: C+
Kyle Korver
The Milwaukee Bucks signed Kyle Korver to efficiently shoot 3’s, and that’s exactly what he did in his first season with the Bucks. Korver averaged 6.7 points per game on 41.8 percent shooting from 3-point range this season.
While reuniting with head coach Mike Budenholzer, the veteran sharpshooter served as an effective offensive threat, especially alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo. He may have been a liability and target defensively, but he made himself an impactful presence on and off the court for the Bucks this season.
Player Grade: C+
Marvin Williams
Marvin Williams only played 17 games in the regular season for the Bucks after being scooped off the buy-out market, but he was an essential factor to the team in the postseason. After replacing Ersan Ilyasova in the rotation as the first forward off the bench, Williams would contribute averages of 5.5 points and 4.8 rebounds per game on 43.5 percent 3’s while serving as a valuable floor spacer and gritty competitor.
Williams’ presence was appreciated during his short stint with Milwaukee, and will now enjoy retirement after a very successful career in the NBA.
