Five winners of the NBA’s 2020 bubble postseason
1. LeBron James (and Anthony Davis)
This was supposed to be the time spent transitioning out of basketball, the seasons where we’d finally see the decline of LeBron James as he positioned himself to dominate Hollywood.
Instead, James has once again given no indication he’s slowing down, even at age 35. He’s an NBA champion and Finals MVP for the fourth time in his career thanks to 29.8 points, 11.8 rebounds and 8.5 assists a game in the Finals.
He became the first player to ever win Finals MVP with three different teams. Add it to the list of accomplishments only he can claim. Joining him in the spotlight was the man who went through quite the fire to become a Laker yet didn’t waste a second of it upon arrival.
Anthony Davis’ two-way brilliance was on display throughout these playoffs. He was the mismatch LA could exploit no matter the matchup, culminating in Finals averages of 25.0 points, 10.7 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.0 blocks per game.
The two superstars gave the Lakers an advantage no other contender could boast, but there were still so many concerns about other areas of this team, questions their greatness would need to help mask.
They did exactly that at every turn. With those efforts, a championship unlike any other is in their possession. LeBron’s Laker move is validated. Talent Davis always had but could rarely showcase is as well. Their legacies are forever changed in ways so many mocked the idea of throughout this wild season.
