Zach LaVine’s fifth goal: Become a closer for the Chicago Bulls

Over the course of three seasons, LaVine has established himself as the best player on Chicago’s roster. The next step for him is to not only be the best player but to also become the closer that can decide the outcome of close games. LaVine hit a 3-pointer on the road against the Charlotte Hornets last season to win the game with 0.8 seconds left on the clock.

While each and every game won’t come down to the last shot, it’s that type of performance that will cause fans, media and coaches to remember his name when deciding which players best represent the Eastern Conference.

Ultimately the glaring omission from the case that can be made for LaVine’s appearance in the All-Star game is wins. In order to have a real shot at being named an All-Star next season, Zach LaVine must help Chicago achieve a record of .500 or better by the All-Star break. That’s the argument that can’t be ignored. The Bulls have some nice complementary pieces but if they’re going to turn the corner towards being a winning team, the responsibility lies with LaVine himself.

There’s a lot of factors that determine who gets a spot on the All-Star roster and who doesn’t, but a team’s record is usually what tips the scales. LaVine came close to his dream of being an All-Star last season. Winning games will make that dream a reality.
