The Boston Celtics defied the odds to achieve what they did this season

When you take a look at this year’s playoffs as a whole, the clear favorites to win were Milwaukee or the Lakers, but there were others. Of course, the Clippers and Toronto were amongst the conversation. Boston’s competition, the Heat, weren’t expected to get as far as they did.

So it seemed fair that the two teams competing for the ECF would be the next big things instead of the usual, a category that is made for the Celtics. This whole year and making the Conference Finals to top it off is something that Boston should be proud of and it will give them confidence moving forward. Boston forged ahead of the competition in the East and were successful in their goal to stand out in their conference.

It’s not hard to imagine what a series against the Los Angeles Lakers would have been like, as the Celtics came just one series shy of a matchup.  In this case, it was the top-seeded Lakers, which consists of all-time great LeBron James, scoring big man Anthony Davis, and a host of young talent assembled by the Lakers organization.

The combination of James and AD isn’t far-fetched from the combination of Walker, Tatum, Brown, and Smart. Boston, like L.A., is not easy to compete against. Having a star like Jayson Tatum gives the Celtics a boost just as LeBron does to every team he is on, but also having four other stars gives them an extra boost, separates them, and makes them special.

It would understandably be a shock to other teams when they walk into the TD Garden every night and Boston’s stars. The culmination of these players and their gifts and talents would run up against any team and make them uncomfortable. Perhaps, Boston will have to face and prove their superiority to other teams in the East, including their former player Kyrie Irving and his teammate Kevin Durant on the Brooklyn Nets.

What the Celtics did in the playoffs is what they have been doing all season. Walker, Tatum, Brown, and Smart are like a singing group. A quartet in pure harmony with each other and at the top of their industry. What the Boston Celtics did was not new to their brand; it was just a few young, talented players reviving the Celtics game and upholding the standard of the organization.

With these young and bright stars, a new day is on the horizon in Boston, and they will be a clear favorite of the East for a long time to come, and that will pay off for them and the entire league someday.
