Detroit Pistons F Grades

It hurts to say it but there is no other way to describe the season that Blake Griffin had. Coming off of what could have been the best season of his career statistically everything about this year was a loss.

Griffin played only 18 games this season and averaged 15.5 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game. His efficiency plummeted, shooting his career worst from the field (35.2 percent) and the worst 3-point percentage (24.3 percent) since he was 23 and attempting less than 1.0 per game.

Expectations make this season that much worse for Pistons fans. For better or worse there were projections that the team would be in contention for the playoffs and that ended the moment he was seen lumbering up and down the floor.

Furthermore, if the Pistons are entering a rebuild trading Griffin makes sense. He makes $36.6 million next year with a player option for $38.9 million the follow season. When healthy he is too good to tank with. He also could bring back some assets should he be traded. If he is unhealthy and untradeable that is all off the table.

Blake Griffin has already brought some happiness to Detroit. He was an All-NBA performer last year and helped to carry them to the playoffs. Given that, the season feels that much worse.
