2. Get to the line more

Trent is a terrific free throw shooter. Last season he shot the ball at 82.2 percent from the line. Unfortunately, he only managed to get the 0.7 times per game which is simply not enough for a player who shoots the ball that well.

He shot 60.8 percent of his total shots from outside the 3-point arc last season. Of these shots, 85.7 percent of them were assisted. He was basically used as a spot-up shooter last season.

To grow his game, Trent needs to create his own shot more, penetrating the paint so his teammates can get open looks. If he can do that, he is going to put pressure on the defense, hopefully getting them into foul trouble.

Last season, the Trail Blazers were 23rd in the league for free throws attempted. They were third in the league for free throw percentage. Had they got to the line more, they might not have been as far back in the standings. They lost 11 games by six points or less last season.

Also, if Trent can diversify his game like this, he will make the Trail Blazers a much harder team to guard. This will open up more shots for the rest of the team and could help them make their way back up the standings.
