5. Re-sign Harry Giles

One of the recent front office mistakes of the Sacramento Kings was that they did not exercise the team option of Harry Giles. This talented, yet oft-injured power forward was worth the cost of his option, worth about $3 million this season.

The impact this had was it will make the job of re-signing Giles harder. Once touted as one of the most talented players to enter the NBA in a long time, Giles has failed to produce good numbers in his short career.

He missed the entire of the 2017 season. He has since played 104 games in two seasons, starting 17. He has averaged 7.0 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in 14.5 minutes per game. The Kings need to focus on developing their players, which they have not done with Giles.

In the 2018-19 season, Giles was assigned to the Stockton Kings for four games. He was only started once in those games. He was assigned and recalled from Stockton twice in December and only started once in the G-League?

It is not as though he struggled at that level, averaging 22.8 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 3.0 assists in that time. If you want him to develop, give him every chance you can to do so against the best competition available.

In the 16 games this season where Giles played more than 16 and a half minutes he averaged 11.3points, 6.4 rebounds, and 1.8 assists. He shot the ball at 57.5 percent from the floor and the Kings went 9-7. Compare this to the 14 games in a row where he did not get game time and the Kings went 5-9

The Kings need to be a lot smarter when it comes to playing time and roster management. they face the real possibility of losing this super talented center because of their decisions. Let’s hope it does not cost them next season.
