Golden State Warriors: Examining potential avenues at the center position

Both Marquese Chriss and Kevon Looney split time at the position this season, and many believed they would go after an upgrade in the offseason. However, it appears that head coach Steve Kerr is confident with the talent on the roster. Kerr’s thoughts on Marquese Chriss as training camp begins, transcribed by The Mercury News’ Wes Goldberg:
"“I think he’s established himself with us,” Kerr said. “He’s much more comfortable coming into camp. We have high hopes for him. We are trying to push him because we feel like he can get a lot better.”"
Kerr also spoke on Kevon Looney and his health, via Monte Poole of NBC Sports:
"“What stands out to me probably, No. 1, is that Kevon Looney is healthy and moving really well and feeling great,” Kerr said Thursday, after the team’s final scrimmage. “That’s probably the best news of all coming out of camp.” “Because Loon has been such a big part of who we are over the years,” Kerr explained. “We need him. If he’s healthy the whole year, then we’ve got a guy we know we can count on at that center position for 20-25 minutes a night. That’s a big step.”"
Kerr is clearly high on his two big men, and if the organization feels the same way, seeing the team stick with them is certainly on the table. Only time will tell if that is the route they decide to take ultimately, but it is not their only option.
