Memphis Grizzlies: Top 5 offseason questions to answer
2020 free agency targets for the Memphis Grizzlies
Currently, the Grizzlies have their point guard positions locked in Ja Morant and Tyus Jones. Their center and power forwards are mostly set in Brandon Clarke, Jaren Jackson Jr. and Jonas Valančiūnas.
What the Memphis Grizzlies need to improve is there wing depth (funnily enough the Grit and Grind Grizzlies did too) currently the wings that saw the most playing time this regular season were Dillon Brooks, De’Anthony Melton, Josh Jackson and Kyle Anderson.
As mentioned, prior Justice Winslow and Brooks could be productive bench players so filling the starting lineups 2-3 should be the priority this off-season. The money with or without trading Gorgui Dieng would leave some space to sign some $1-10 Million players.
Bogdan Bogdanovic (restricted Free Agent), Glenn Robinson III, Jae Crowder, Justin Holiday, Joe Harris, Ryan Broekhoff and Kent Bazemore.
The Chicago Bulls could use similar players and I broke down in more detail what Bogdanovic’s and Harris’s skills would be useful in Chicago and it similarly implies here. All of Crowder, Holiday, Robinson and Bazemore are all solid 3-and-D wings and Harris and Broekhoff are sharpshooters that will be on the cheaper side in this free agency and Memphis has a great young core to convince some of these players to join the Grizzlies.
Memphis were ranked 15th in defensive rating and 20th in offensive rating per real gm and one of the main reasons for their less than stellar offence was the 3-point shooting. Memphis ranked 24th in 3-point attempts per game, 25th in made threes and 23rd in 3-point percentage.
Clarke and Jackson Jr. are both above average shooters and Morant is a must-start so filling the gaps with 3-and-D wings would be the best solution, Brook can easily slide into that role with better shot selection but if not these 2020 free agents could suit the Memphis Grizzlies.
