As NBA free agency looms, should the Philadelphia 76ers bring in former Boston Celtics and LA Clippers head coach Doc Rivers?

It’s no surprise that the Philadelphia 76ers have underachieved over the past decade. While the team certainly did not have high aspirations going into the 2010s, the promises of a full-on reset brought hope to a city that was in dire need of change. With that change came former head coach Brett Brown, who championed patience and development of young talent.

Once that talent developed into star players Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid, the city of Philadelphia expected to reap its reward in an NBA championship. However, due to a litany of reasons that have been established on a multitude of occasions, the 76ers simply fell short. As such, the franchise has looked in another direction. In particular, the Sixers have looked into bringing in former NBA champion Doc Rivers to take over the reins in Philly.

Rivers would obviously bring in a dynamic that most in Philadelphia would either praise or abhor, depending on who you ask. Some believe Doc would bring a championship pedigree that the Philadelphia 76ers desperately need.

On the other hand, some feel Rivers’ accomplishments do not carry much weight, as he has only won one championship while having a three-headed monster in Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, and Paul Pierce. Ultimately, it would have to come down to what version of Doc Rivers Philadelphia would be getting.
