Enes Kanter – Sell

Given Theis’ emergence, the need for Enes Kanter diminishes. He is a solid player still but had his worst season since his second in the league. After being the projected starter for the Boston Celtics coming into the season, he only started seven games and averaged 8.1 points and 7.4 rebounds per game off the bench.

Kanter is a total minus on the defensive end of the floor, something that sets him apart from Theis and likely led to him playing less of a role for this team. He is still an elite rebounder, but when comparing the two (and even throwing Williams into the list), it is an easy decision for the Celtics.

It even makes sense for Enes Kanter to opt-out given the lack of a potential role for him on this team. He thrived last postseason for the Portland Trailblazers and can still provide a spark off the bench for a team. He just does not fit the plan for the Celtics as they outline their center rotation.

The biggest question for the Celtics during free-agency will be who their starting center is for next season. Ideally, they will find an elite option to compliment the stars on their roster. Until then, the current roster options are pretty clear. Theis acquitted himself well and has made Kanter expendable in that regard. Where Boston goes from there, it will not include both.
