2. Carmelo Anthony

A legend in New York City, one of the best to ever wear, not only the blue and orange jerseys, but an NBA jersey in general. Carmelo Anthony is a born and raised New Yorker and without a doubt the most entertaining player that Madison Square Garden has ever hosted on a regular basis.

Unfortunately, his illustrious career has gone downhill. In just a few short years, he went from being in the conversation for the title of the best player in the league, to struggling to find a team that would offer him a job.

Luckily enough, he found a good home with the Portland Trail Blazers for the majority of the 2019-20 NBA campaign. After making more than a quarter of a billion dollars throughout his 16-season journey, he settled for a non-guaranteed veteran’s minimum with Portland.

His future with the Blazers is certainly blurry. Even though he seemed to be a good fit there, repeated failure by the Blazers might lead them to an organizational overhaul. With his retirement being incredibly improbable, he will need to test the free agency market.

If he ultimately leaves the Blazers, Carmelo will most likely end up either on the Los Angeles Lakers, to team up with his buddy LeBron James, or the New York Knicks.

In New York, Melo will taste the sweet nectar of his youth once again. Playing for a team for which he averaged 24.7 points per game, leading the league in scoring in one of the seven seasons he spent there will undoubtfully bring back a variety of sweet memories.

By signing with the Knicks, Anthony instantly gets to take over as the team leader, just like his old self. The franchise can also offer him more money than any of his other potential matches, something that Carmelo has valued a ton over the course of his career.

Carmelo Anthony signs with the Knicks and will most likely end his career as an all-time great that failed to win a championship. Even though that’s not the Cinderella ending we would’ve liked for Melo, retiring in New York certainly has its own virtue, like the atmosphere shown in the video above.
