Houston Rockets: 2019-2020 season player grades
Houston Rockets grade: Jeff Green
Jeff Green was perhaps the most surprising contributor to this year’s Rockets team. After being waived by Utah, Houston initially signed Green to a 10-day contract. Green provided immediate production off the bench, averaging 9.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in his first four games as a Rocket.
As a result, the Rockets signed Green for the remainder of the season. The veteran forward continued to be a bright spot off the Rockets bench for the remainder of the regular season.
In the playoffs, Green was asked to play an even bigger role for Houston and he stepped up to the challenge. Averaging around 28 minutes per game, Green shot lights out from 3-point range at 42.6 percent. As a result, Green contributed 11.6 points per game off the bench in the playoffs, including scoring 22 points twice in Houston’s first-round series against OKC. The 34-year-old also averaged 5 rebounds and 1.6 assists in the postseason.
Green is a free agent this offseason but the Rockets should be expected to try and re-sign him since he proved a valuable asset in the team’s small-ball philosophy. If Houston chooses not to resign the veteran forward, he will certainly find a job on a different team, most likely by a playoff contender looking to boost their bench, after he proved he still is capable of being an important role player off the bench.
