Houston Rockets grade: Eric Gordon

Injuries and poor 3-point shooting defined the season for Eric Gordon. Gordon struggled with various injuries all year long and as a result, only played in 36 of Houston’s 72 regular season games.

In games that he did play, Gordon averaged 14.4 points but was extremely inefficient in how he got those points. Gordon shot a career-low 36.9 percent from the field in the regular season. This is an extreme letdown for a player who the Rockets relied on as their third scoring option.

On top of that, Gordon, who has been one of the NBA’s best sharpshooters from deep in recent years, only shot 31.7 percent from 3-point range, which is the second-worst 3-point percentage he has put up in a single season in his career.

As a result of his shooting struggles, Gordon posted a career-worst -3.9 box plus/minus this season.

This season showed that the 31-year-old is clearly past his prime and that staying healthy is still a major issue, as Gordon has not played more than 70 regular season games since the 2016-2017 season. The Rockets are hoping Gordon will have a bounce-back season in 2021, especially since they owe him more than $75 million over the next four seasons.
