Houston Rockets grade: Austin Rivers

The 2019-2020 season was an up-and-down year for Austin Rivers. Rivers had some very impressive games, highlighted by his 41 point outburst against the Kings in the bubble, but also had his fair share of games in which he greatly struggled to find any rhythm.

Overall in the regular season, Rivers averaged 8.8 points on 42.1 percent shooting, including shooting 35.6 percent from downtown, off the bench. Rivers also averaged 1.7 assists and 2.6 rebounds per game.

In the playoffs, Rivers production dropped off big time. The 28-year-old only averaged 4.8 points per game in the postseason. This is due to his poor shooting, as he shot 31.1 percent overall from the field and 25.7 percent from 3-point range.

Defensively, Rivers was solid all season. His quickness and athleticism allowed him to stay in front of his man. Rivers averaged 0.7 steals per game in the regular season.

This offseason Rivers has a players option but most people expect him to stay in Houston, especially since he is a good fit in the Rockets system and he expressed his desire to stay with one team for a while after moving from team to team over the early stages of his career.
