It won’t be long until Doc Rivers coaches again

According to reports, within the hour of Rivers getting fired, both the Philadelphia 76ers and the New Orleans Pelicans came calling. Considering the coaches that have already been dismissed from their positions, there’s a deeper than usual talent pool to pick from. Rivers is near the top of the pecking order.

Interestingly enough, the other coach who is at the top is the man who is the current favorite to replace him. Among the other rumored big-name candidates on the market are Kenny Atkinson, Mike D’Antoni, both Jeff and Stan Van Gundy, Chauncey Billups, Adrian Griffin, Ime Udoka, Sam Cassell, Darvin Ham and Becky Hammons. Jim Boylen is also available.

The teams still in need of a coach are the Philadelphia 76ers, the Indiana Pacers, the New Orleans Pelicans, the OKC Thunder and the Houston Rockets. With the exception of the Pelicans, every one of these teams made the playoffs this season.

Doc Rivers also has the option of getting back into television. He was an excellent commentator in 2004 before the Boston Celtics hired him as their head coach, and his acumen can only have increased over the years as he’s been continuously steeped in the league for decades.
