The Cleveland Cavaliers’ minicamp is in full swing and the franchise already has some reasons to feel optimistic heading into next season.

It has been over six months since the Cleveland Cavaliers suited up as a team to compete together. Their last game came on March 10 versus the Chicago Bulls. Since then, the franchise has been patiently waiting for another opportunity to play.

Their 19-46 record before the season ended held them back from receiving an invitation to play in the NBA’s Orlando Bubble. This has left the Cavaliers stranded with no ability to gather and prepare for next season.

That was until the league finally approved a proposal to allow the ‘delete-eight’ teams to participate in a two-week minicamp. These camps are taking place in each organization’s home city and is only optional for players across the league.

Some notable names like Stephen Curry and Draymond Green have sat out of their respective camps while the Cavaliers are missing potential free agents Tristan Thompson, Matthew Dellavedova and Andre Drummond.

Kevin Love was a pleasant surprise to join the voluntary camp. The veteran star has no obligations to quarantine and participate with the younger players but has fully embraced his role as a leader heading into next season.

For those that don’t remember, the Cavaliers were in the midst of an encouraging stretch before their run was suspended. The team will want to pick up where they left off. Hitting the ground running in this minicamp will be their first step towards making a leap.
