Mikal Bridges

Goal: Make those offensive developments

Mikal Bridges’ sophomore season proved to be a hit, with the Suns utilizing the former Villanova talent as a 3-and-D piece as expected. Since he was drafted, Bridges has become a threat on both ends. However, defensive seems to outweigh offensive.

Defensively, Bridges made a leap from his rookie season, with a development of his paint and perimeter defense, making him more reliable on the switch. While it wasn’t outstanding, it became a redeeming factor for Bridges last season, and a great starting point to improve for next season. Overall, Bridges became a certified defender, and his efforts proved that he can be a reliable threat in both the paint and the perimeter.

Offensively, however, Bridges barely scratched the surface in terms of development, which is common in typical young players. The effort was more than there, with Bridges aiming to branch into attacking the rim rather than resorting to the 3-ball constantly. He shot fewer 3-pointers and looked for different opportunities, which is a great sign. Bridges became more reliant on other forms of offense, even though it was demonstrated slightly.

This season is the perfect stepping stone for Bridges to develop his offensive game and finally implement himself in the paint, becoming a utility of sorts. To develop as a viable threat, Bridges must break the mold of being a 3-and-D player and becoming an overall two-way threat. This is the perfect season for that.
