Ricky Rubio

Goal: Become a mentor to whoever is drafted

Ricky Rubio had an astounding 2019-2020 season, contributing as an effective playmaker and defender, perfect for the pure scoring prowess of Devin Booker. Rubio also made an impact on the scoring end too, shooting efficiently. Coupled with his two-way and playmaking ability, Rubio was sensational in his first season in a Suns jersey. This was expected, and the Suns are obviously happy with how Rubio impacted this season, and he should be in their blueprints for the coming season.

It’s hard to determine how Rubio can improve for next season, other than the obvious consistency, that would raise him into that next level of NBA point guards. But that seems to be an obvious expectation/goal for most starters in the NBA, and for any basketball player in general. Rather, Rubio should aim to become a perfect mentor and veteran to whoever the Suns select in the 2020 Draft.

This goal, of course, is more of a possibility than a certainty. It can be put into action if the Suns go through with their expected selection of a point guard. with their 10th pick. Rubio as a mentor would be perfect for any guard since he has so many defining factors that have made him the player he is.

It’s worth noting that whoever the Suns draft would learn bucket loads off of Rubio, especially in becoming a better playmaker and defender. If Rubio can mentor whoever comes through in this draft class, it would be substantial in drafting a point guard who can contribute right away.
